Eklutna Lake, the biggest lake in Chugach State Park, is a majestic 45 minute drive North of Anchorage. This relaxed, scenic trail follows the clear, turquoise waters of Eklutna Lake for 7 miles and glacial gravel bars for another 6 miles. The optional last 2 mile is a footpath through glacial debris field to the moraine.

You will experience views of steep mountain walls, waterfalls and Eklutna Glacier. Wildlife in the area include moose, bears, wolves, Dall sheep, mountain goats, porcupine, ground squirrels, marmot, fox, ptarmigan, eagles, and lynx. In the summer the trail is bordered by wildflowers. In the fall, currants, cranberries and raspberries grow alongside the trail.

As with all of our trails… be prepared! Dress warm, wear hiking shoes (no open toes) and wear multiple layers. Helmets, goggles and gloves will be provided but feel free to bring your own.

When scheduling, please let us know and allow additional time if you need to make a flight connection.

ATVs are only allowed Sundays through Wednesdays between April 1 and November 30 and there is a 15 MPH speed limit on the trail.
Shuttle service from Anchorage is included. Please ask about service from other locations.
