Nelchina is an ATV recreation mecca. With over 150 miles of trails that connect to other trail systems, the adventuring possibilities are endless. Many of the area's trails were blazed by the early gold miners and are still in use today. Watch out, there’s a lot of wildlife out here. Residents include moose, bears, caribou, wolves, fox, and ptarmigan (just to name a few).

The drive to the trailhead is a tour in itself. Leaving Anchorage you’ll cross Eagle River and get up-close with the Chugach mountains. We’ll head North past the Knik River where you can catch views of Knik Glacier on clear days. Past the Knik Valley, we head up the Matanuska Valley next to the Matanuska River which offers many opportunities to stop for some amazing photos of Matanuska Glacier.

Unloading at Eureka summit, the highest point on the Glenn highway, we begin riding through miles of tundra. River crossings, streams and climbing up & down scenic hills will lead us to Four Corners, the Alaskan crossroads. From here we have multiple options. Our favorite is the pass to Cottonwood Creek Trail, down Flat Creek Trail and to the Nelchina River where we can set up camp for the night and enjoy an Alaskan dinner.

At Four Corners, the Alaskan Crossroads

The next morning, after breakfast, you will be faced with a scenic hill climb up to the Monument lookout. At the top you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking views of the Talkeetna Mountains to the Southwest, the Chugach Mountains to the Southeast, Nelchina Glacier to the Southwest, the Wrangell Mountains to the West and the Brooks Range to the North, making this truly an amazing view.

Please ask us for pricing on multiple night adventures. Non-shuttle “one day” tours are also available.

As with all of our trails… be prepared! Dress warm, wear hiking shoes (no open toes) and wear multiple layers. Tents and sleeping bags will be provided. Please make sure to let us know if you have any dietary needs when you make your reservation.

Shuttle service from Anchorage or Palmer is included. Please ask about service from other locations.
